As a key member of the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) Team, BAE
Systems is responsible for five of the eight manned variants and for
major elements of the common platform design. These critical weapons
will be the first in a new line of combat vehicles and systems that will
empower soldiers through unmatched firepower, situational awareness and
survivability.
Technology developments in composite materials, hybrid electric power
systems, active protective suites, integrated vehicle survivability,
reactive and passive armor kits, crew station design, training systems,
unmanned ground vehicle capabilities and other features position the
organization at the forefront for future ground combat system
developments.
Ground Systems is certified to ISO 9001 standards and the highest level
(Level 5) on the Capability Maturity Model - Integrated (CMM-I) for
systems and software engineering.
Mechanical Engineer
Job Summary:
Researches, plans, designs, and develops mechanical products and systems
such as instruments, controls, engines, machines, and other devices. May
include mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic, or heat transfer
for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Uses
advanced software tools to develop product specifications and test
procedures. Develops practical economic solutions that meet performance,
cost, and schedule requirements within program constraints.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creates, plans, and performs engineering design, development, analysis,
experimentation, test, and/or product assurance tasks of moderate
complexity for assigned portions of a project. Ensures tasks meet cost,
quality, schedule, and performance requirements.
- Applies full application of engineering design and/or analytical theory,
principles, techniques and practices to a definable portion of a
technical project to test or evaluate a specific property or
characteristic of a product, or to support research and development
projects.
- Applies basic knowledge of the design of organization's products,
technology, systems engineering, and engineering technology in the field
to solve moderately complex engineering problems which have been clearly
defined and have similar precedents available. Problem analyses often
require selecting the best method or process from among several existing
alternatives.
- Develops and writes technical documentation, makes revisions to existing
documentation, and provides input to technical papers or presentations.
- May make technical presentations.
- Provides input, analysis, and recommendations to senior engineers or
project leaders for the development of solutions to technical problems
or independently solves technical problems of moderate complexity
ensuring compliance with requirements.
- Performs technical analysis, testing, calculations, and evaluation of
results to solve moderately complex engineering problems using
specialized equipment and/or by creating computer programs, models, or
simulations.
- Analyzes and interprets design specifications, drawings, documentation,
and/or test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable
engineering standards, military specifications, and product
requirements.
- Provides input to project leaders for the development of project plans,
schedules, and budgets.
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with internal and
external customers to solve technical problems of moderate complexity.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering discipline(s),
industry practices, trends, and applications.
- May direct the work of less senior technical personnel.
- Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety
objectives and policies.
BSME degree plus 2 additional years relevant experience; or a MSME
degree and no experience.
